KAYAK/CANOE – KENNEBAGO RIVER

A trip to the Rangeley Lakes Region would not be complete without a paddle down the Kennebago River. A wonderful launch has been created at Steep Bank Pool on the Boy Scout Road, which is off Route 16 towards New Hampshire. This relaxing paddle is appropriate for most members of your family and provides a true wilderness experience with the opportunity to often view wildlife as you glide around the many bends in the river. Pack a picnic, pull up on a sandy shore, and spend an afternoon swimming, enjoying some sunshine, and reconnecting with family and friends. You’ll need to ‘spot’ a car or bike at the take-out on Route 16 at the bridge just beyond the Boy Scout Road to retrieve the vehicle you left up at the launch. It’s approximately two miles from the take-out on Rt. 16 back to the Steep Bank Pool launch. Many outfitters will deliver you and your canoe/kayaks to Steep Bank Pool and this allows you to leave your car at the take-out spot on Rt. 16 so it’s ready for you at the end of your trip.
