THE ART OF FLY FISHING

The Rangeley Lakes Region was founded on its legendary fishing and is known as the birthplace of the art of contemporary fly fishing. The region’s deep lakes, remote ponds, clear rivers, and streams are kept cold by the forest-clad mountains and provide a home for world-class trout and landlocked salmon fishing. To thoroughly enjoy and make the most of your fishing outing, we recommend hiring a Registered Maine Guide who can show you the best fishing spots and techniques while sharing the rich heritage of this remarkable region with you on your next vacation.

Kris Thompson of Pond in the River Guide Service is one of our favorite Guides. He can get you out for a half-day or full-day on one of the many rivers or remote ponds in the area. He can provide equipment if needed, and welcomes all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned fishermen. He also offers casting lessons, if you just want to get a feel for using a fly rod. Be sure to check out his Half Day Specials in July and August! Contact him at 207-864-9140 or check him out online for more information. www.rangeleyflyfishing.com.

Fishing licenses are required for those 16 years of age or older. They may be purchased for a 1-15 day period or for the full season and are available for local and out-of-state residents. You can get them at local sporting shops, like River’s Edge and the Rangeley Sport Shop or buy them online at https://moses.informe.org/cgi-bin/online/moses_v3/index.
